it's a bug and suse hasn't felt like fixing it.
Really? Why?
And before you make unfriendly statements like those, keep in mind that those kernel rpms are not officially part of the distribution, and are solely supplied by some hard-working SuSE employee for your benefit. Take it or leave it. And you could always suggest a fix if there is a problem.
I disagree. SuSE widely advertised that no /boot ext2 partition was needed anymore and reiser boots fine now without ext2 anywhere.
And that's perfectly true. I have not had any problem doing that.
The same problem comes with stock kernel 2.4.4 which comes with the distro. So there is people like me who go ahead and use what is advertised and run into problems. I mean if they worked on reiser working this way why haven't they tried it out at least once. They would have known that mk_initrd wasn't executing properly after an install in this fashion.
mk_initrd is not magic. Just configure it in yast. ________________________________________________
