Tim and all I have noticed the same effect; if I re-start the Xwindows after logging out (instead of shutting down or re-booting) I (almost) consistently get the large font sizes. I am a complete newbie; I am waiting to see if SuSE can help me after the W/E with the resolution on my screen as in the non- magnified Kmail the lists of e-mails in the in- tray are difficult to read (of course they cannot help with KDE). I have discovered the file /var/log.xfree860.log and have e-mailed them with extracts therefrom asking if there are configuration issues I had thought of trying the Linux version (beta) of the Matrox power desk (or whatever) to sort this problem out for myself, but as I have the same card as you (don't know about the modules being enabled or not) I think I had better not just yet... I have found from my "Practical guide" (Sobell) that if I use ctrl-alt- +(on number pad) I can read the small fonts and can use this as a work-around till I get help with Kmail. But there is a blank strip on the left of my screen comprising about 10% of my screen. Is there any way to set the magnified desk-top to be centred as the normal one is? (I can move it centrally with the mouse (though there are no scroll bars). Douglas Holden
