<rant> Let's see. Xmms finds cd's but no sound. For the brief time when xmms played, the EQ has never worked. Kioslave such as audiocd has only worked in root and I followed the readme/howto on user and it says that I may need to set permissions. Permissions for what? The /dev/mixer, /dev/audio, /dev/cdrom (done as with all the others), /dev/sr0 and sr1 (done - I can use KOnCD no prob), /dev/whoknows? SuSE help doesn't work. Everytime I do a search I get a message that Kong is set to text/html and it can't handle that? But if I have Moz set as the default browser then it will load. Which brings me to the other half of the equation, SuSE help has a builtin brower that used to display the help files/sdb stuff in it. Now it wants to open a browser (Moz, Kong, etc) to view the files. This is very time consuming since each file I try to open opens a new browser, instead of just going to the next page - so forward and back through the browser is a non-issue since it's more like have 2, 5, 7, etc.... browsers open for each file querried? And don't get me started on Magellan - dl about 2 to 4 emails and then say theres now response from the mail server? But, kmail with the same exact config gets them all no prob! There are many other problems that exist. I have got sound and it runs fine, I used yast to install KDE (et al) and that solved the problems with the sound (that and deleting/changing the prior kde2 stuff in the admin/users dir and tmp). It's seems very evident that many of the permissions and association have been changed. Many programs and functions that operated as one might expect are now unusable and non-functioning. Such as access to my zip file (now resolved - but what a pain, not mention have a 2nd icon on the desktop for the same zip, both of which point to the same device thanks to the KDE2.2 install, and this happened each time I install the new gui/kde). Maybe I'm a little dense but I don't understand why this specific config/implementation was used. I don't get what the programs were try to do or accomplish. <end rant> Oh Well, I hope the next version/update is a little better (and I'm using the lastest 2.2.1pre kde stuff from SuSE ftp). Cheers, Curtis :-/
