I have the solution! Take a Linux distribution, say SuSE 7.2 Personal and make it closed source (bear with me). Then strip out everything that's not part of KDE (well actually most of the KDE applications too) and prevent console logins (also disable xterm, the ability to use ssh, ftp etc. without buying additional software). Stop anyone from downloading non-standard packages, the ability to compile your own kernel, and so on and so forth. Finally, take all of the open standards and add additional (proprietary) functionality, which means that only official packages will run on your system... Sounds great doesn't it? :-T (mind you, it'd still have a better security model than that other popular OS). But seriously... This thread, which started with someone complementing and supporting proponents of Open Source has turned into an ugly flaming contest. I don't believe this, nor some of the language used, is appropriate on this list. I thoroughly enjoy using Linux (GNU, XFree86, KDE etc.) and made a decision not to use Microsoft Windows at home; it was my choice. And, that's the point! Open Source is about freedom, liberty, libre and not imposing our values on others. This is why Linux and Open Source prevail. Being positional is not. What's more, the PC desktop market is not the battleground; it's in the boardroom. M
