Hi, I am trying to get the Nvidia driver working on my machine: Video Card: Nvidia GeoForce 3 Kernel Official SuSE kernel 2.4.7-SMP running on a dual Athlon CPU machine. I have updated my machine with the latest XF 4.1, SAX2, hwinfo RPMS. These are steps I took: 1. I downloaded the latest SuSE drivers from Nvidia and via YOU (apparently YOU downloads them from there as well, I just wanted to make sure that none of them works). 2. Installed both the kernel and the GLX RPMS. Ran sax2. It fails and points me to /var/log/SaX.log in which I found the following: (II) NVIDIA: NVIDIA driver for: RIVA TNT, RIVA TNT2, RIVA TNT2 (Ultra), RIVA TNT2 (Vanta), RIVA TNT2 (M64), RIVA TNT2 (??), RIVA TNT2 (??), RIVA TNT2 (Integrated), GeForce 256, GeForce DDR, Quadro, GeForce2 MX, GeForce2 MX DDR, GeForce2 Go, GeForce2 MXR, GeForce2 GTS, GeForce2 GTS, GeForce2 Ultra, Quadro2 Pro, GeForce3, GeForce3, GeForce3, GeForce3 (--) Chipset GeForce3 found (II) Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/libvgahw.a (II) Module vgahw: vendor="The XFree86 Project" compiled for 4.1.0, module version = 0.1.0 (**) NVIDIA(0): Depth 16, (--) framebuffer bpp 16 (==) NVIDIA(0): RGB weight 565 (==) NVIDIA(0): Default visual is TrueColor (==) NVIDIA(0): Using gamma correction (1.0, 1.0, 1.0) (--) NVIDIA(0): Linear framebuffer at 0xF8000000 (--) NVIDIA(0): MMIO registers at 0xF1000000 (EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVdriver kernel module! (EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting *** (II) Unloading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/libvgahw.a (EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration. Fatal server error: no screens found 3. Decided to build the module myself from the source RPM. Issued rpm --rebuild on the kernel source. The RPM was built with no errors and I installed it. 4. Tried to do the same to the GLX source RPM but SuSE insists on creating a link from /usr/src/linux-2.4.4.SuSE to linux even though I am running 2.4.7.SuSE and it fails creating the RPM (of course, I don't have the source for 2.4.4 installed). I also tried to remove teh two RPMs and built and installed the .tar.gz files, but then sax2 refused to work since it insisted on having the RPMs installed. Any idea what may be the problem? Why does the nvidia driver fail to initialize? Thanks, Avi -- Avi Schwartz avi@CFFtechnologies.com "I have to share the credit.
