My 7.1 based box is working quite well save for the fact that I can't print out of netscape. I've been told by a linux techie at my ISP that I should upgrade the kernel to 2.4.5. As I am still very new to Linux, can someone advise me as to the best way to so do without disrupting what I now have working well otherwise?
For kernel update stick to the sdb-article 'ftpkernel'. IN short, it's like that: 1. Download new kernel, as an rpm. 2. Backup your old kernel: # cp /boot/vmlinuz /boot/vmlinuz.old and # cp /boot/initrd /boot/initrd.old 3. Install new kernel: # rpm -Uhv k_deflt.rpm 4. Create new ramdisk: # mk_initrd 5. rerun lilo: # lilo Next reboot, your new kernel is present. Worked exactly like that for my update on 2.4.7 Enjoy the sunday ...
