As another data point, I have a stock SuSE 7.2 system including the KDE and Konqueror which comes with it, and the BBC site loads fine, so there must be some more subtle problem rather than a generic flaw in Konqueror. Bernie On Saturday 25 August 2001 04:16, Volker Kuhlmann wrote:
Very strange. konqueror refused to load the site. Just told me 'connection failed', but netscape loaded it on the first try. Has anyone else experienced something similar.
The fault is with konqueror. I use the KDE which comes with 7.2, used wget to get the file (wget -p -k -K ..), and konqueror absolutely refuses to load the file. In fact, it shows up as an audio file (with a little speaker icon).
Cd into the directory, and do a ln -s 1507326.stm 1507326.html then load the .html name - voila.
These strong file type associations with extensions in KDE a la mickeyshaft really annoy me at times. Running konqueror as file manager and selecting "open this file with -> internet -> konqueror" does absolutely nothing. I *hate* it when my software insists on being smarter than I, after I've told it to shut up.
