Two ideas: Is samba running? Check with ps aux|grep smbd or rcsamba status. rcsamba start, if it isn't
Yes, it was running; but until I tried this I wasn't sure. I'm not too sharp on this stuff yet.
Second, do you have 127.0.0.1 set up as an interface for samba? In swat, enter all the machine's interfaces in the "interfaces" box.
I had to change the interfaces to 192.168.1.0/24 127.0.0.0/24. Before I had a "1" at the end of each sequence and that gave me the error message: root@linux:/etc > tail /var/log/log.smb standard input is not a socket, assuming -D option [2001/08/24 00:12:56, 0] lib/util_sock.c:open_socket_in(863) bind failed on port 139 socket_addr=192.168.1.1 (Cannot assign requested address) So, I now know that you need the whole range for bind.
