Does anyone know how I can use a microsoft internet keyboard with XFree 4 ?
If I just stick it in it works just fine, except that the special hotkey buttons on the keyboard do not work.
And I'd like to use them to control xmms
Ah, an interesting subject! If you're running KDE, you can try going to the Control Center and under Personalization select the keyboard type. They don't list Microsoft Internet but they do list Logitech Internet and a couple of other Microsoft keyboards. Maybe one of those will work. Or: you can try running xev and pressing those interesting keys to see what keycodes they generate for you. Then, using your ~/.Xmodmap file, you can define them to activate virtual function keys (F13, F14, etc.) Lastly, you define those function keys to perform the xmms functions you want. Booby trap: once you've set the keyboard type in the KDE Control Center, your Xmodmap settings are ignored. The only way to reactivate them is to yank out those settings by their roots from the KDE config files. I learned that the hard way. Paul
