A friend of mine is running SM56 (WinModem) A recent look at the linmodems page reveals a driver RPM provided by motorola. This driver indeed seems to be working under SuSE 7.1 (pro). I installed the RPM on his system, and fired up wvdial. wvdial does report that it cnnot locate a modem, however the rpm does create a symlink (/dev/modem) which wvdial uses without complaint. DOD works well, I am not at his system at the moment and cannot provide more information than tat at present. This modem uses a HSF/HCF architecture and these drivers MAY perform adequately for other brands... dunno at present. I realize that not many of you use this modem in linux, however information is good to have nonetheless.
