I know we've more or less done this - but I am about to build a machine and would be interested in getting the input of anyone who has had good experiences with recent mid-price AGP graphics cards, ideally including a 3d setup that worked easily and again ideally including an open source driver. I don't much like the sound of the struggles everyone appears to have had with nvidia's drivers.
Did someone mention that Matrox have been good about this?
They are great. I'm especially happy that my G450 is running really fast now after I upgraded to X 4.1.0 and Linux 2.4.6-pre1. Matrox support is absolutely awesome, as well. The forums are pretty active and they have assigned a guy (Ben) to handle requests there. My G450 with 32MB cost me all of $200 Canadian, too. That's pretty cheap. The drivers, both the XFree one and the Matrox provided one are open-sourced. Matrox provides a separate closed-source library for stuff that's under license, which they are unable to provide source for. - -- James Oakley Engineering - SolutionInc Ltd. joakley@solutioninc.com http://www.solutioninc.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.5 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE7L01f+FOexA3koIgRAr0yAKCCdExnLoPMVcKHs3TnkxTtWBVvGgCglvZm UnN4s3/wAVZXAFX195p/U0U= =iI1p -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
