So, can I safely use mod-utils from SuSE (doing the force install since it conflicts with another package) and use the kernel src from kernel.org (2.4.4)? Thanks, CC

I thought this VIA bug was a bios issue..not a kernel issue. Is this a work around that the kernel guys came up with?
Apparently VIA posted a workaround on their web site. I say apparently because I could never find it myself. The Alan Cox (ac) kernels have had the workaround for a couple of weeks, but I could never get them to work correctly. 2.4.4 claims to have the fix installed and boot.msg contains:
<6>Applying VIA PCI latency patch.
