Win4Lin only supports the Win9x versions of windows. Don't know about WinME! For WinNT architectures you'll need to use VMWare or Plex86 (Formally FreeMWare). I haven't tried Win2k, but WinNT works ok under Plex86, and VMWare. The key to any of these is memory. Usually the processing power is ok. But at 64Mb things are a little slow, beef it up to 128Mb and things get much better. RikD.

Hi everyone, I'm trying to decide whether I really need to purchase Win4Lin or if one of the free alternatives might work alright instead (with the added bonus of the free alternatives supporting more than just Win95/98).
I'm currently playing with Plex86, and I must say it seems to me it looks rather like Bochs (which is another project started by the same person), and infact even refers to itself as bochs in same places.
Any tips on whether I would be better off to try Bochs? And, does anyone know if I have any hope of getting Windows 2k or XP to run on either of these emulators at a usable speed?
Thanks, Tim
