I do not like there licence policy either. Regarding install , I installed the cuips stuf from 7.1 and had to tweaj\h the settings in the cups printer setings. I changed it from dithared to irdered I thing\k ind then it all printed out fine , note you need to remove lprold I think as well. At 11:38 AM 4/21/2001 +0200, FX Fraipont wrote:
I have been having problems with my HP890 printer ever since I installed 7.1.
I gave up on the default linux printing system installed by SuSe, because it is agonizingly slow on my printer. The only configuration that is fast enough is the deskjet 500, but I then lose colour printing, which only produces very pales copies.
So last year I bought Printpro, and I have been very happy with it. That is, until I did a clean install od SuSe 7.1.... When I reinstalled Printpro, I realised that my license was not valid anymore, because the license is issued for a machine, and back in december, a few months after buying Printpro, I upgraded my motherboard and processor. As long as I was using the installed version of Printpro, there were no problems, but a clean installed wiped out my installed license, which corresponded to the system number of my old MB+processor. I had a hard time persuading Easy Software Products to i me a new license, which kind of poses a philosophical question: when is a new machine a new machine? When you upgrage the motherboard and processor. I found it unfair to be unable to used a commercial product that I bought only six months after licensing it just because I had upgraded a part of my system. Anyway, ESP finally gave me a new license, so that problem is settled at least.
The other problem I have is this: whether I use Printpro or the free CUPS and drivers supplied by SuSE, or even Gimp-print, I have this strange problem: I configure my printer, print a test page (perfect); if I print a one page document, I have no problem. If I print anything longer than one page, I get a perfect first page, and a second page (whatever the length of the document, I only get two pages) that only has thin stripes along the length of the page.
I have appealed to ESP, and they can't find a solution. After all, their product used to work perfectly before I switched to Sue 7.1.
Can anyone suggest a possible cause?
thank you.
