Hi All, A few weeks ago I posted a message about how I couldn't get 7.1 to install on my 9 gig Seagate Eagle HD (ST410800N). I had wound up reinstalling 7.0 anyway, and the reinstall seemed to cure the frequent segmentation faults I was seeing. I even upgraded to the 2.2.18 kernel (only it seems that I'll need to go to at least 2.2.19!), I don't have the message any more, but I received a fairly detailed message asking about, among other things, whether the SCSI drive was properly terminated. My response was I thought so, since I installed it right out of the box. Well, it wasn't. According to the instructions, "To terminate ST410800N...drives, enable the permanently mounted IC terminators by installing a jumper on J4A pins 19 and 20." The reason why I happened to look was because I bought another ST410800N ($9 at Egghead plus $13 for shipping), and it didn't come with a jumper over pins 19 and 20 either. Right now the original HD is properly jumpered. My question for today is, what should I expect when I hook up the second HD, in terms of how the current system will respond? I know I will have to do a low level format, and I assume the SCSI bios will identify that need when the drive is first started. But after that, what do I need to do to format what will be sdb? Will linux tell me the equivalent of "found new hardware"? TIA, Stan Koper
