In /etc/rc.config, set
SYSLOGD="-m 0"
See "man syslogd" for details. Remember to reload syslogd:
rcsyslogd reload

Anyone know off hand where I can disable the -- MARK -- indicator from syslogd (permanently, i.e. even after re-boot)?
I used to know where it was, but that sector of memory seems to have gone corrupt.
Thanks, Geordon
