Can someone please give an overview on how these two subsystems compare? I mean, what does Win4lin offer, that vmware does not (yet)have and vice versa.
O Hello, Although I too, haven't been able to get Win4Lin going (SuSE7.1), I have used VMware for some time, and it's advantages are quite clear. For starters, you get sound and DGA. Also, the ability to create VM's to run many different OS's (except BeOS ;-( ). VM's can also be created to run on raw discs. I have even used it in the past to run a firewall program I have and act as an internet server for our micro-LAN .....although having a virtual machine running all the time can be awkward. VMware is a great way to try out new versions of our beloved OS, before committing disc space or wiping an existing setup. Oh, and now, my mouse even scrolls in Win98VM. It is a cool program. BTW, another alternative which I have been playing with lately, is Cygwin/XFree86. Unfortunately, it is under the auspices of RH, so I will say no more here. I have used it to run a VM remotely.....cool. Cya, Tom -- TRBishop tb64710@alltel.net RLU #12043 SuSE 7.1 PRO
