A few months back SuSE staffers posted on this list a reference to SuSE docs describing the process to build SuSE rpms from foreign sources. Checking the Support Database I find only a refernce to building from SuSE sources and mail list comes up blank.
see: http://sdb.suse.de/cgi-bin/sdbsearch_en.cgi?stichwort=srpm&searchtype=and
Does anyone have that reference or can point me to it on the web site. Reason is Ive started playing with some of the GPL'd products from TheKompany and their SuSE rpms are slow to come forward and not always correct. They always issue srpms however and with the correct spec file Im assuming you can build the correct version. Heck Im all new to this rpm build stuff (yes Im looking at Max rpm) but assuming I need that reference from SuSE.
Any saged advise appreciated.
Probably the best way to get started would be to install a couple of source rpms from the suse cds, open up the suse manual that came with your cds and read the section "Installing and Compiling Source Packages". Pick a couple that you don't use or don't care about and do it from scratch to installed rpm. Once you have the process figured out you can import say the tarball of a newer revision and pretty easily make a suse rpm from it. -- Mark Hounschell dmarkh@cfl.rr.com
