It seems we have
netscape [which IMO a good browser but the UI is more limited than windows.. and constantly complaining about "lock files"] does anyone have a remidy for that??
Now this is what I have "developed" :) obi1@obieito:~ > cat /usr/bin/kn killall -9 netscape rm $HOME/.netscape/lock obi1@obieito:~ > It's more of a joke than anything else, but this shitty script made its way to my usr/bin and I also have a Desktop link which unfortunately I use a lot. If you are new to this, you can do it like this : log as root or su type this cat > /usr/bin/kn killall -9 netscape rm $HOME/.netscape/lock CTRL+D And thats it. Call it with kn, it kills all netscape sessions and deletes the lock file.
netscape 4.76 is more or less stable, but the netscape6 is really hopeless and slow
More or less stable ??? Then MY 4.76 netscape is NOT stable at all, it's the only app that has frequently hanged up the whole graphic subsystem... together with RealPlayer 8 and very few times konqueror. I use netscape because it loads quickly, mozilla 0.8 looks great but is PAINFULLY slooooooowwwwwwww... you can see the screeen pixels being drawn one by one... it needs more work, though the features and look-and-feel are GREAT. Konqueror ( my humble opinion ) is kinda 'toy' browser still, but its reasonably fast and small. Opera I havent tried it in linux, I tried it in windoze about two years ago it was under heavy development but promised to be a good one, everybody who uses it seems to have a good opinion.
I wasn't really happy with Netscape 6 myself. (6.0 that is.) 6.1 seems to work a whole lot better.
Opera is looking good, however, it as of yet dosen't handle Java in the linux version.

StarOffice ??? The browser is ok, but if mozilla is slow, then well, I have a 266mhz PII with 128 RAM and I can go fetch a coffee while s.o. starts... I'd never use that for a browser; I only use it if I am editing or spreadsheatting and need a quick browse ( does this phrase look sexual to me only ? ) My 2 cents ( Euro-cents, of course ;) - -- - From the forgotten corner in Europe, Land of Breogan Powered by GNU/Linux SuSE 7.0 - Linux user #97.266 ...may the force be with you -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.1e-SuSE (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE60gou43VmOmspzC4RAhKpAJ9ZgvY6VX8y2P8AQjwBBBFAC9tjaQCgvR8a FQ7j9J4jcZrl/ORvVLm1wyU= =FRvt -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
