Hello Alex, It is interesting (?) that we have the same problem but inverted, that is, you can use 2.2.18 but not 2.4.2, while here it is exactly the inverse, I can use 2.4.2 but not 2.2.18. The messages I get from cdrecord are similar to the ones you see. The conclusion is probably that some mysterious configuration parameters have to be adjusted. If you agree, I can send you my kernel configuration file (.config) for 2.4.2 in exchange of your configuration file for 2.2.18 !
