I have problem with VIA 686B South bridge sound support (AC97) and my SuSE 6.3 box. I tried almost evrything, but achived almost nothing except with ALSA sb8 module, but I have very low sound level, and amixer does nothing. Please what to do? Is there any driver for VIA 686B?
P.S (I want to keep my kernel)
My new 'BEAST" has an AK10 AMD Socket-A Based Main Board and the sound chip is also the AC97. Check your motherboard documentation and make sure the sound chip jumper is set for "ON" and the BIOS has it enabled. I suspect that sound "leaks" through even when it is disabled, although I would think that disabling is done by disconnecting the line to the power. ?? Just a thought, because I think my AC97 was leaking through. JLK
