SoundBlaster Live. $99 Worked immediately... after I went into alsamixer and turned up the sound.??????????????? My midi still doesn't work, but I'm hoping to follow the instructions in the 'other' SuSE book. Win a few, loose a few. It really is a good card. Really! If someone has one of these SoundBlaster Live! cards It might help me to see what your modules.conf looks like. I you could mail that to me out of band, I'd greatly appreciate it. I finally got to the point where I felt like this was a distracton. I guess it's more important to put our efforts into the hardware of the future, rather than kill ourselves over retrofitting. Thanks everyone for all the help. And especially thanks to SuSE. You make a great product. But if you can make it, I can break it. Steve
