Hi Filip, The Nvidia driver would have been built according the Kernel version you are running, when you upgraded the driver noticed it was the wrong version and so bombed. Its pretty easy to fix with the *.tar.gz from nvidia.com and will not take long to do. Guess the only thing SuSE can do is to build from the source against a 2.4.2 kernel and release it as RPM. I personnally have never built an RPM, wish I knew how though. Also, not sure about the licensing issues... Hope that helps, Matt On Thu, 8 Mar 2001, filip wrote:
Hi LenZ,
Thanks for your reply. As you said, no problems except nvidia. The nvidia driver runs perfectly with 2.2.18 but not with 2.4.2.
The last lines of /var/log/XFree.1.log gives me : (EE) NVIDIA(0): Failure to determine amount of video memory. Symbol XAARotateMonoPattern from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.o is unresolved! Symbol XAAPatternROP from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.o is unresolved! Symbol XAACopyROP from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.o is unresolved! Symbol XAAFillSolidRects from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.o is unresolved! Fatal server error: Caught signal 11. Server aborting
I've send the file to feedback.suse. The problem seemed to be known already.
Cheers, Filip.

If you have an older distribution, you need to update modutils as well.
do mk_initrd ? If so, will it create initrd_2.4.2
Yes.
do lilo?
Yes.
