I got some old 486dx33-isa computer as a present. it has 2400 baud internal, optics at 8000 cdrom, 2x 200 mb at hdd, isa ne2000 included.
As we write 2001 already, what use has one still got for such an old thing to be used under linux console environment.
I have an old 486 at home too. I stuck a network card in it and wrote a bit of Perl which copies a bunch of important files off my server every night. I do backups of course, but not every day, so it's useful to have the latest copy on a separate machine, just in case.
