I've been using pppd (version 2.3.10) in demand mode, starting it with the following: /usr/sbin/pppd modem 57600 \ lock crtscts mtu 1500 mru 1500 defaultroute asyncmap 0 \ noauth \ demand \ idle 90 \ 0.0.0.0:0.0.0.0 \ name jimo remotename eskimo.com \ /dev/modem \ ipcp-accept-local ipcp-accept-remote \ connect '/usr/sbin/chat -f /etc/ppp/chat-isp' and using the stock ip-up/ip-down scripts that came with SuSE 6.3. The problem I have is after several ssh sessions, or Netscape sessions, I get no reply from my connection---ssh simply sits there waiting for my ISP to ask for my password; Netscape says "connecting to blah, blah, waiting for reply." It's as though pppd has misdirected the incoming packets somehow. Netstat shows connections ESTABLISHED, as though everything is fine, and I can ping and receive the results of that. /var/log/messages shows a connection established, and the usual local/remote IP addrs changed, all perfectly normal. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I can usually fix the situation by killing pppd and restarting it, but surely this is not the way it should work. Before I start bothering this list with copies of my rc.config settings or all the files in /etc that might relate, I'd like to establish contact with some folks who are interested in the question, and perhaps can steer me in some direction to start the debug process. Then I'll be happy to share whatever files you want to see. TIA, Jim
