Try mapping a drive from Win Network Neighborhood. Right click on Net Neighborhood and then -map network drive. Use something like \\Name Linux Box\Linux Directory Samba should be sharing your home directory so try \\Name of Linux box\home directory Try smbstatus ifconfig -should show your ethernet card up and running. Try to ping the IP address it is using from Win. Naturally Win has to have shared level access control too. Don't forget to stop and start Samba whenever you make config changes. root@Gomez:/etc > /sbin/init.d/smb restart Shutting down SMB services: done Starting SMB services: done root@Gomez:/etc > This is what I got using smbclient. Thanks for the sources of info
I installed samba, read the man pages, read the HOWTO, changed the config settings, set IP addresses for the windows machines, but all to no avail
Do I need to mount the windows drives before I can see them?
How come I don't see any reference to the network in dmesg?
I can't see Linux on the W98 machines either.
I also get a 'failed services in run level 1 - networker' message
help me before I go and buy shares in microsoft...
