yeah, but this will always boot the machine in console mode. and that's not what jon was after, IIRC.
I guess I misunderstood the question. I have a modified KDMRC file from an old Caldera installation that I copied to /opt/kde2/share/config/kdmrc. It had the console exit option built in, although the same thing occurred on the console -- no clean exit to a prompt. ENTER or Ctrl-C always brings the prompt up. Notice in the kdmrc the line: ConsoleMode=/sbin/init 2 Caldera uses init 3 for the console mode, but when I changed it to "2", it works fine. I have not tried init 1. The file is attached.
