I orginally used the 2.4.2 kernel from kernel.org, could not get the modules working.
I downloaded the linux-2.4.2.SuSE-1.tgz from ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mantel/next/
That kernel compiled and worked fine without any problems.
What is different? Are their big changes that need to be done to use a new kernel with SuSE or is it just the location? I used YaST and it placed everything in /linux-2.4.2.SuSE . I was previously using /usr/src
thanks in advance

Thank you *sooooo* much for posting! I was about to compile the kernel.org 2.4.2. You saved me time and a headache! -- Andrew L. Gould Director, Decision Support Services Shannon Medical Center
