I do not wish to seem rude, but what you wrote is so non-specific that I'm not at all sure what your problem is. Please attempt to clearly state the errors, "getting a screen full of bumph from BT " could be anything - who is BT? </rant> Look in'doze at the network settings and see if the authentication method is set to CHAP or PAP, my guess is that you have the wrong one selected in Kinternet. If all else fails just try both of those in Kinternet. Look in your dialup logs (try /var/log/messages if you can't find them elsewhere) and show us exactly what the error messages are (don't forget to comment out your username/password) At 05:37 PM 2/19/2001 +0000, you wrote:
Hello all
I went out and bought an external modem today to use with my laptop, as the damn internal modem is an ESS winmodem.
It dials out fine, but when trying to connect to my ISP I'm getting a screen full of bumph from BT ???? If I boot back into 'doze I seem to connect with no problems.
My question is ' what is dial up networking doing that Kinternet is not. The problem appears to be something to do with password authentication, although I have double checked the password is correct'.
I hope this question is an easy one as I'm itching to dump this M$$$$ crap and start using 7.1. Compared to my last versions of Suse (7.0 and 6.3) I'm well pleased. The KDE2 setup is working great as is Koffice, which is much quicker than any of the office flavours I'm forced to use at the office. Fortunately office time is about three days a month so my laptop and Koffice will be the norm if I can start to dialup.
Kind regards
