Ok, I have to say something about this pricing issue. Look at all the costs involved : Development Documentation Marketing Sales Tradeshows None of these things come cheap!!! In fact, they are all VERY expensive. So please please please stop bitching about a $69 price tag! You get more in that box than Red Hat offers for $149!!! And in fact, you get some of the same software Red Hat offers for over $1000!!! I believe that SuSE is one of the largest contributors to Open Source devlopment! Do you really expect SuSE to pay the Salaries of Keith Packard, Alan Robertson, Hans Reiser, Andrea Archangeli and others with a $29 box. There is no "single point of failure" when analyzing the situation of SuSE Inc. Certainly, there are things that I believe the German management should/could have done differently to enable US success but in the end, its their company and they can do whatever they want to do. Just my 2 cents. ??? Because of cost cutting? You're doing selective reading. I said the big business is moving into Linux rapidly, but that boxes aren't sold too many in the US (in general, not just SuSE - our ftp sever is MUCH busier than the box sales). You need a long breath for the big business thing, and box sales as current income are not increasing. So draw a conclusion NOW.
Something to do with there new price srtucture ad M$ like pricing !
Fortunately - although this won't help everyone - in Europe we do make significant money with the business already and not just boxes any more.
difficulties on segments of the market but you can use them on other segments where things are better as you stated. Is it because of the big guys ? Those big guys will be selling to us with a big price and a big profit while SuSE will remain dependant of the big guys. I think SuSE made a bad choise. SuSE has to build step by step its growth. People will pay for a strong and good technical SuSe even if the price is a little higher.
Don't know.
