You need to change your FQHOSTNAME in /etc/rc.config ; then change it in /etc/hosts and then reboot. You might also want to set BEAUTIFY_ETC_HOSTS (in /etc/rc.config) to "no" as well, or SuSEconfig decides to have its merry little way with /etc/hosts and usually makes a complete pigs ear of it! I had to turn it off because it kept juggling the names around and assigning them to the wrong interfaces, which broke just about everything net related. Not sure if the hostname pops up anywhere else.
