I am one of Suse's severest critics, but I must tell you that there is another side of the coin. I have run for some time a stable Suse Linux desktop, using KDE, Gnome and some other desktops. I use the command line extensively. My main use of Suse is as a desktop, it simply does not compare in quality to FreeBSD for a server. On that desktop I use, Kmail, Knode, Netscape (which is awful I agree), and a selection of other apps. I also use it for printing and for occasional SMB use (that was a bit more problematic). This is through Suse 6.1, 6.4 and 7.0. The 6.4 system was from a tryout disk on a PC magazine cover. I use an old P166, admittedly with a lot of memory. I have bitched about a lot of things with Suse Linux, and will continue to do so. But I can also say that I have stabler and more predictable desktop than the Windows equivalents I have used AND managed. Some functionaility is missing. It will arrive eventually. Cliff I hav
Well said Eric!! I mean windows is slower and it crashes more but...in Linux you can't get anything working without spending days on it I mean...I still have a problem with my scsi emulator. And on windows you get the drivers but on Linux there are no drivers for many things(hp DeskJet 720c, Mustek scanner[LPT1], hp cd-writer plus 9200 [not scsi]..)
Pit A.
P.S that's why I have a dual boot system(when it has to go fast I take Linux. When it's something like printing colour or burning or scanning I take win98)
