Will 7.1 come with RPM 4.x?
No, it will not. RPM 4.x is not really useable and stable if you install a lot of packages. The LDPS specification also uses RPM v3 as package format.
But RPM 3.0.6 (which we use) and RPM 3.0.5 (which is in the unsorted directory of CD1 from SuSE Linux 7.0) can read and install RPM v4 packages.

Cool! Is the RPM database compatible between 3.0.4 & 3.0.5? In other words, if 3.0.5 doesn't work for me can I downgrade without problems? Thanks, -- John Ross Hunt bigboote@mediaone.net mailto:bigboote@mediaone.net
