Did you install all updates? There is a nvidia directory in the /pub/suse/i386/X/XFree-86-4.0.2-SuSE/suse70 directory. My GeForce 2 (a Creative Annihilator 2) ran well just by installing all that was on those dirs and configuring it with SaX2. And I did not have to load or configure any modules. You didn't say if you actually entered SaX2 and did the configuration or if the server would not start at all. I'm asking that because SaX2 and X broke later when I tried to get kernel 2.4 up and running (before that I was using the out-of-the-box suse 7.0 kernel). Perhaps it could be something like that... have you updated your kernel lately? Jorge At 02:28 PM 1/25/2001 -0800, matthew wrote:
Thanks for the help, already have tried all the updated rpms from ftp.suse.com. Any other ideas? Guess that is what I get for using an almost bleeding edge card.
Will keep trying...

I suppose you are referring to an Nvidia GeForce 2 GTS card, am I right? If so, I'd recommend you download the updated X from the suse ftp server, it also contains the nvidia updates necessary to make the card work (also includes an updated SaX2, which actually detects the chipset.
Hope that works.

Good day,
Having major problems getting this one to work. I follow the instructions but can never get the NVidia driver to load (it shows up on lsmod). The last time I tried I got a strange modprobe query. I loaded the NVidia driver via insmod, then tried modprobe, still came up saying that the module was not loaded, tried modprobe again and it seemed to load it again! Lsmod showed the module was loaded, but moprobe did not complain to say it was loaded already. /etc/modules.conf has the NVidia line installed...
Anyone got any ideas? this is frustrating...I am using the sources of the SuSE ftp site.
With many thanks,
Matthew
