Hi JR, Thanks for responding to my post. I tried your suggestion using #45 off the video card database list. Interesting thing happened. The Xwindow system did launch, but all I got was a blank red screen. When I tried moving the mouse, all it did was flicker around the top of the screen. The keyboard ceased to function. I couldn't shutdown the Xwindow system, so I had to just turn the computer off. I know that's not a very good thing to do in Linux, but it was all I could do to get out. Any idea what I might try next. I'd appreciate any help you can give. I'm at my wits end after working on this for 2 weeks. I don't know, I may have to pull this graphics card out and buy an older card that will definitely work under XFree 3.3.6. I just don't know what else to do. I was able to configure My new AIW Radeon card.
If I remember right I used xf86config and chose #45 for the card, I forget the name but it was more of a generic ATI card like AIW SVGA or something. After the set up I was able to use the new version of SAX2 and when I got to the card it showed ATI Rage Pro, I think, and using the properties I was able to go in and tell SAX2 that the card was a Radeon. After that I was able to login to a GUI without any problems.
