I'm writing this note on my ISP's machine, logged in via telnet.
I'd like to change things so that I can write mail at home, and
then have sendmail pass it on to the world through my ISP's mail
system. Thing is, I don't have my own domain name---I'm simply
"jimo@eskimo.com" since eskimo.com is my ISP. So I don't know
what to tell SuSE linux as far as configuring the mail parameters
in rc.config. I don't think I should be naming my home machine
"eskimo.com" should I? I've got my ISP's mail machine listed
as the smarthost, but apparently that's not sufficient to make
all this work.
I'd also like to be able to mail locally between the machines on
my home network, without that mail having to go to my ISP.
The rtfm's I've gone through so far seem to assume that I've got
a real, registered domain name, known to the world. Surely there's
a simple configuration for those of us that don't. If I could
see some examples of such simple setups, it would help a lot.
I'm hoping I don't really have to read thousands of pages of good
books from O'Reilly just to pass mail to and from my ISP.
Can someone point me to some documentation for this simple case?
