Subject: Kde2 craziness with SuSE
Hi all!
I am new to Linux after being totally fed up with Gates`s sh.t.I have been
following this kde2 weirdness with interest too and I feel urge to comment on
the subject and the way the SuSE is handling it.After downloading kde`s2 rpms
from suse ftp server and didnot downloaded entire directory just recomended
packages I spent hours trying to figure out howto install that stuff.I
eventually succeded but found that idiotic way to start kde2 under SuSE 6.4
with changing to init 2 and than typing WINDOWMANAGER=kde2;startx.....
extremely inconvenient,so I decided to play quick and dirty, mind you I tried
to use an info from KDE themselves but that just didnot work for some reason.
Here is very quick way to start kde2 under kde1 login screen.
Firstly I created folder kde2 and placed it in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/...
inside the folder I placed link to opt/kde2/bin/startkde script.Works every
time no fuss.I hope that SuSE could come up with more info about this subject.
My next nightmare came after I downloaded kde2 -2.01 and installed it.
All my setting were erased and any changes I did in the session were gone
after I logged on again all back to defaults! Investigating what is going on
I`ve found that logging setup is not looking into /home/user/kdesktoprc but
into opt/kde2/share/config/SuSE/config/kdesktoprc or kdesktoprc root for
that matter so I`ve removed those files put them somewhere else in the system.
Anyone knows better or more intelligent setup SuSE please...!
