Since I was looking for a machine to work with Suse Linux, I decided not to take any risk wit hardware compatibility, and I bought a Dell Dimension 4100 with Linux preinstalled. (Unfortunately, I can only buy at Dell because this is corporate policy...) This machine has a NVidia GeForce AGP, NV10 with 32MB video ram, a 3Com 3C905C ethernet card, and it comes with Redhat preinstalled.
I went out and bought a brand new Suse 7 personal distribution which fails to recognize both the graphics and the ethernet card. :-(
I don't know about the video card, but you might want to download the Linux driver (yes, there is one) for this card at 3com's web site. I have a bunch of these boxes (all Windoze, unfortunately) that I administer, and the last 3 that shipped with this card wouldn't initialize properly with a Netware boot disk until I got the latest drivers for it. The ones before that all worked fine with the older driver, but according to the data stamped on the NIC, they were the same model. Which driver are you using now? I believe that there are 2 drivers for the 3c90x cards in the kernel, each for different chipsets. Cheers, Dennis "Custard pies are a sort of esperanto: a universal language." --Noel Godin
