Subject: cron.daily?
The /etc/crontab that SuSE 6.3 set up for me has the line:
53 2 * * * root $HOME/bin/cron.daily
but the only file in /root/bin is cron.daily.local, with
a cautionary message to put customizations there, as cron.daily
will be overwritten during an upgrade. In /etc/cron.daily
there are two files, aaa_base and tetex. aaa_base executes
/root/bin/cron.daily.local, among other things.
My question is: what tells cron about the various directories
in /etc, how does it know to execute aaa_base and friends?
The tasks in my cron.daily.local aren't getting done, and
root gets mail every night from cron complaining that it
can't find /root/bin/cron.daily.
I could simply change the line in /etc/crontab to reference
the .local file, but I'd like to understand the system, if
all those directories in /etc are really useful.
TIA,
Jim
