I also can not download the latest 4.0.1 X server without a running network card.
I already asked for help at the Suse installation support more than a week ago. Unfortunately, I did not get any response yet except and automated reply email :-(
Run your SuSE using Linux 1 at the LiLo prompt at boot up. Then you can use Lynx, a text based browser, to download the XFree86 4.0.1, Before you do this you need to configure Lynx. It's easy; from the suse support Dtata base:
Hi Jonathan, thanks for your help. That's what I tried first. Actually, I installed a system using Yast1 and tried to download Xfree 4.0.1 from the Suse site. Unfortunately, the network card does not work either. :-( As I said, it is a 3Com 905C, and it works fine with Redhat. With Suse (either with 6.4 or 7), the card gets recognized, and a 3c905 module gets loaded. However, it does not work. I can not ping the machine, the connection is simply dead. The ifconfig and route is fine though. I don't know what's wrong with a 3Com. How do you get a 905C running? I mean, 3Com usually has a good reputation regarding Linux. Are there any special parameters, I could try when loading the module? What's wrong with it? Gordon.
