Hi all,
My name is Shane Broomhall from Australia. I am considering my future direction in the computer industry. I have decided to get serious and learn a version of Linux. I am already familiar with Unix (Solaris). It is a toss up between Red Hat and SUSE. I have been happier with SUSE when it installs on my laptops. I have had a look through the documentation that comes on the CD. I am finding myself more impressed with SUSE over Red hat.
Several problems I have are:
SUSE does not have a presence in Australia, Red Hat does. There are dozens of Red Hat books and guides, very few on SUSE.
I would appreciate it if some of you would be able to give me a comparison of the 2 flavours, on the understanding that I am already leaning towards SUSE. I am planning offer installations and support as a part of my business, but only once I know the product.
I would be particularly interested in hearing of how widely is SUSE used in the business world, What kind of companies, and of any known big unsolvable problems with SUSE or Red Hat.
I am also interested in finding any specific SUSE documentation that may be hidden out there.
Thanks in advance
