Hi all,
Hi,
(zap)
When I use *any* URL on the new site of the form http://64.77.39.130/registration , the browsers ( Netscape, IE and Opera ) load the page from the old site ie http://www.schoolcircle.com/registration BUT when I use http://64.77.39.130/registration/ ( with the trailing slash ) the correct page from the NEW server is loaded .
Did you configure apache (or whatever http daemon) with the hostname of the server (www.schoolcircle.com)?
If you did, when clients ask the server for http://*/register without the trailing slash, the server answers with a 301 or 302 Redirect response to the correct place (http://*/register/ with the trailing slash). as the servername is configured as www.schoolcircle.com it gives the redirect to http://www.schoolcircle.com/registration/
take a look to see if this is the case
Because of this , I am too scared to ask Hostpro to point the DNS of schoolcircle.com to the NEW IP 64.77.39.130 .............
don't think it's necessary :)
The Unix admins at hostpro are at their wits end ...Can anyone explain this strange behaviour ......................? Is it ok for me to ask them to 'flip' the DNS to point to the new server now ?
it's explained above.. it's not so strange :)
Waiting anxiously for an answer
hope to have helped :)
