Have you configured it via yast1? Make sure the SCSI device number is correct, and that it ties in with /dev/sg?. Don't worry about yast error messages just yet. Next modprobe with the correct drivers as root. Yours may work under the aic7xxx series, I don't know - check in the manual or just try: modprobe aic7xxx Then lsmod to check it's there and happy. You should then be able to run : cat /proc/scsi/scsi to see that it has picked up your scanner. Finally, you need make sure other users apart from root can use it: chmod 666 /dev/sg? Yast should have put a ln -s from your chosen device no. to /dev/scanner. And Bob's your uncle! Next you need to set up xsane... You can save yourself some bother by going to the sdb on suse.com and typing the keyword 'scanner'. From there, choose setting up your scanner (the quick and easy way) and you can just cut and paste the commands. Should take you just a few minutes. Don't forget to change /etc/modules.conf if you want to boot up with the drivers of your choice for the SCSI card. One slight caveat is you can find sometimes that the aic7xxx drivers hang if you use kernal modules for your soundcard. In that case, pass the parameter aic7xxx=no_reset via lilo config to the kernal. Have fun! k. On Sunday, October 29, 2000 2:55 AM, Doug McGarrett [SMTP:dougmack@i-2000.com] wrote:
Has anybody got this scanner working? It scans under W98, even tho the software is absolute dreck (yes, I know what that word means!) The Adaptec SCSI card (2940) recognizes it, but SuSE says no device found. CAn it be made to work, and if so, how? TIA --doug
