Ok this is complaining about your ZIP drive right ? If it is not ncessary at the time being you may want to disconnect it until the core of the problem is reached.
I keep it connected to occasionaly check that the SCSI card is working OK. But have tried it both connected and disconnected. The scanner then moves to /dev/sg3 and is detected as such by both YAST1 and xsane. I have also tried just loading the aha152x module on it's own, and even unplugging the DC2976 SCSI card, but still nothing! <snip>
Do you use Suse kernel or self compiled with ide-scsi being compiled in the kernel not as module( I had a problem with self compiled kernel where I had the similar problem the scanner and thge scsi was frozen). If that is not the case try running the scanner when ide-scsi is not loaded to the memory.
I use the stock SuSE kernel and modules. I too had problems with compiling ide-scsi modules before and have stuck to the stock kernel since. My problem was accessing a SCSI device would hang the system completely.
The last thing are you running xsane as root if as a normal user then is the use member of the disk group
Running xsane as root, with "xhost +localhost" typed in my console. Don't want to add user permission until it works!
