Well the best suggestion I can give is when you to type dmseg and send the output to the list. After the update the devices and their permisssions might have changed. or the order of the modules loading and assigning channels might have neen changed
Oops I ment dmesg (sorry wrong typo) hereis what I have fropm dmesg
DC390: 1 adapters found scsi0 : Tekram DC390/AM53C974 V2.0e2 2000/05/27 scsi : 1 host. Mine is something similar but obviously more devices. I'll try to send it on when I get home this evening.
and this is what cdrecord -scanbus shows

So if you arenot getting thinsg like that most probably your scsi deviecs are not recognized. what does your /etc/modules.conf say regarding scsi-hostadaper It should ide-scsi for your ide originated drives
SCSI devices are recognised, as I can use everything else. Just not the scanner! In /etc/modules.conf I have scsi-hostadapter set to off as I prefer to load the modules myself as needed. This allows me more control when I upgrade as I simply edit the boot.local to add a small script which loads the required modules. The ncr53c8xx module is loaded as part of the rc.config passing the module name to the initrd so that it's loaded automatically on booting. The my script in boot.local modprobes the ide-scsi then the aha152x module. The output of dmesg is similar to yours.. scsi0 : DAWI Control DC-2976 SCSI .... scsi : 1 host. Lists DVD then CD scsi1 : SCSI host adapter emulation for IDE ATAPI devices scsi : 2 hosts. Lists CD Writer scs2 : Adaptec AHA1502...... scsi : 3 hosts. Lists Zip then Scanner The DVD is accessed on scd0, sr0 or sg0 depending on the application. The CD is accessed on scd1, sr1 or sg1 depending on the application. The CD Writer is accessed on scd2, sr2 or sg2 depending on the application. The Zip is accessed as sda4 or sg3. Finally, the scanner should be sg4 and is detected as such by YAST1. It looks like (and this is a stab in the dark) like there is no interface between xsane and the scsi device sg4! I wonder did I miss something in the install, or is something missing in a config setting somewhere which I can't find. I assummed that installing sane should do it.
