My, that was brave of you! I read on Slashdot last night that the reiserfs is scheduled to be included in the 2.4.1 kernal - maybe you'll just have to wait! k. On Saturday, October 21, 2000 9:43 AM, Niels Stenhoj [SMTP:stenhoj@adr.dk] wrote:
Hi Folks!
On friday, I and a yet another SuSE fanatic ran a 14 hour session of kernel hacking.
The purpose was to set up a kernel with full support for UDF to allow for RW of CD's using the 'Direct CD' format. Initially we estamated that kernel 2.4.0 coming together with SuSE 7.0 would be the best candidate, so we ported the configuration file of the default kernel to the source folder of 2.4.0. The configuration and compilation went well, and it seemed to load normal. However, the process stopped because kernel 2.4.0 does not support ReiserFS. Of course, we tried to port the ReiserFS sources from 2.2.16 to 2.4.0, but despite many efforts, we failed to set up adequate dependencies.
We also tried to port the UDF sources from 2.4.0 to 2.2.16 only to get a message saying that UDF needs 2.3 or higher.
So my question is: Is there any tool or standard method of setting up dependencies to 'alien' code that needs to be included in the kernel at boot time?
Thanks in advance!
Niels
