Victor R. Cardona tapped away at the keyboard with:
That depends on what you want to do. If you do not want sendmail to start at all, then you can set the "smtp" option in rc.conf to "no"
I've gone the "whole hog" and revised the rc.d bits as I want to have a choice of which SMTP I'm running... "smptd" on firewalls and "sendmail" on internal machines. I set the SMTP option to the _name_ of the SMTP service I want to start; i.e. either "smtpd" or "sendmail". I also have additional files in rc.config.d on firewalls to set smtpfwdd and smtpd options. Perhaps SuSE can make that _standard_ in future. Until then, I'll exercise vim and make the one-line changes to the startup files concerned.

Hi, what is the easiest way to stop and start smtp after the booting up? Or, even, the easiest way of closing and opening of port# 25 after the booting up?
