I have an internal network of Windows PCs (Win98, Win NT Server) behind a Linux firewall. The firewall is the gateway to a DSL hookup to the Internet. I now want to access the NT Server through the Internet. I have punched a hole through my Linux firewall to enable one computer to get in and access the NT WWW server. I used rinetd to redirect any port 80 connections coming into the Linux firewall to the internal NT Server. However, I also need to access the internal NT FTP server. Sadly, rinetd does not redirect FTP ports. Is there still a way I can make use of the WWW server to upload and download stuff from my NT file server? If so, will this only use port 80 or will it also use port 21? The final goal in all this is just to let an external computer download files from the file NT server, make changes and update the server files . . . I've considered port forwarding but I do not want to go through the hassle of looking for port mappings for the applications that the external computer uses when it accesses stuff from the file server . . . I appreciate any hints or help you can offer me. -- Mac Q.
