You are partially correct in assuming that you can put the distrib on ftp. a. You would have to evaluate the license for every single program and check to make sure it is legal to distribute - SuSEs commercial classification programs are not distributable. Pre-GPL Qt KDE is probably not distributable (opinion; not flame) b. Some programs are licensed by SuSE ex. the sound drivers and cannot be distributed. (I don't think you can even install these on multiple machines) c. The ISO layout maybe copyrighted by SuSE (one of the BSDs does this), so all programs are free but you have to make your own CDs for distributing. d. Under the GPL you may also be required to provide a download for all GPL source along with the binaries, now we are talking _way_ more than 6 cds. e. Make sure you are not in Maryland which has passed UCITA with consumer protection clauses which could have implied warranties! Regards, Adi Gadwale. On Mon, 2 Oct 2000, Purple Shirt wrote:

Conversely, he can go to his friend and say "Hey could you burn me those 6 disks cuz I wanna install it" without having to fear a $100,000 piracy fine as with MS-Crap.
I dare you to put it on ftp. I love to see SuSE scramble with unofficial mirrors popping up on the net because SuSE seems to live in the 80s still when people had no bandwidth for downloading stuff. I refuse to handle disks when I got a powerfull line in my house. Is SuSE still planning to burn CDs in 2010??? RedHat seems to be ahead of SuSE in this because they started a subscription service for their high-end ftp service.
I haven't lost faith in SuSE Linux but I have lost faith in the people behind it that they don't provide a ftp service. Am I the only person who likes to live without carrying around a bunch of CDs and stuff his room with similar manuals???
Just to make this clear one more time. I will only be purchasing CD copies of SuSE if you start opening up the ftp process. If you won't stop torturing your ftp customers then I hope others pull even with me with stopping the revenue from going to SuSE.
