Hi all,
Whats the most efficient way to backup the MySQL database on my Hosting Company's servers ? They've given me a web interface to MySQL . The best I can do with this interface is a text-dump .
Should I ask them for SSH access ?
I don't see quite how ssh is gonna help, I'd bet that you won't be able to get access to the /var/mysql or wherever directories your database lives in, might even be on another machine, but... ...if you can do a text dump, you could ftp the dump file to a local machine, and have everything you need to recreate the database. MySQL dump files can contain the entire structure and contents of the database, and I have used them to move/copy databases from one machine to another. -- Reality is an obstacle to hallucination. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
